When we visualize we think visually more than verbally, we manage to see and manipulate objects with our mental eye. We think metaphorically, since we “see” the similarities between disparate concepts.

In this “thinking without words” we use practically the same brain systems that we use to process sensory information from the environment and that we capture through the sensory organs (eyes, ears, nose, skin or taste particles).

That is, the visualized images activate the same parts of the brain as those that would activate the real sensory input, this means that these parts of the brain do not guess the difference between the real object and the visualized or imagined object.

Visualization includes not only the ability to see images that are not in the external environment, but also the ability to hear, smell, feel, and taste what is not here.

Benefits of Visualization

•   Relaxes the body: The thoughts that flow through the left hemisphere lower their frequency to join the right hemisphere of the brain, which produces greater balance in the body.

•   Eliminate stress: With visualization you can reduce tension, improve communication with the body, so you enter into intense peace and harmony.

•  Positive attitude: Visualizing positive situations helps leave behind fears, resentments, critical blame and self-reproaches.

•  Strengthens defenses: Positive thoughts, through visualization, generate chemical substances that benefit our body by improving the immune system.

•  Promotes forgiveness: You learn to tolerate people and have a broader understanding of situations.

•   Create a connection between emotions, feelings and needs.

•   Balances energy, harmonizing energy centers.

•  Increases creativity by creating a link between deliberate and spontaneous paths of thought, helping to find creative solutions to problems.

•  Generates the use of hypothetical thinking What if…? that helps make decisions that can have an impact on our security and our future.

•  It provides the brain with the necessary foundation to form a coherent image of the world (our world schema) and to form a coherent image of oneself (our personal identity). Two essential elements to enjoy good mental health.

•   Various studies suggest that mental visualization helps in the healing process.

•   It is very beneficial for practicing sports.

• Many musicians, surgeons and even people who do high-risk jobs claim to use it to practice their skills.

Children, actors and daydreamers know well about visualization, it is the state that creates what is known as the “inner universe.”
