ARE YOU A WARRIOR GODDESS? Beyond all the labels, gender classifications, beliefs and stories that we all carry about ourselves, fluctuating in two types of diametrically opposed, but divinely interconnected energy: the masculine and the feminine. We see, hear, feel and cultivate masculine energy everywhere. Masculine energy is fiery, tough, logical, goal-oriented, proactive and externally focused, and permeates everything from religion, sex, to our relationships and work lives. Masculine energy, or God energy, dominates our lives because its very nature is to rule, command and control. This is not necessarily a bad thing, but after centuries of bowing down to fierce “gods,” industrializing the world, and living by aggressive, goal-oriented rules, ideals, and objectives, it is time for us to reclaim the power of the feminine in our lives. .
WHAT IS THE DIVINE FEMININE (AND WHY DOES IT MATTER)?
Feminine energy is passive, gentle, abstract, intuitive and nurturing, and is embodied by the moon, earth, water and winter/autumn. As a gentle yet sensual frequency, feminine energy is also linked to procreation and sexuality, which is precisely why it has been rejected for so many centuries due to the repressive religious values of the male patriarchal church fathers.
Divine Feminine energy, or Goddess energy, is a subtle but immensely vital energy source in our lives. Without it, we are out of touch with our bodies, our emotions, our dreams and our mother earth. Without it, we live superficial lives, chasing empty goals, ego-centered ambitions, and bleak values that are disconnected from the mystery, wonder, and magic of life. Without honoring and cultivating the divine feminine in our lives, we feel incomplete and eternally unfulfilled, following paths that are destructive to the planet and toxic to those we love. Simply put, without recognizing and nurturing the feminine energy within us, we are incomplete and our lives feel shallow. Inspired by HeatherAsh Amara’s book, I want to explore the process of embodying the masculine and feminine in everyday life and how it can benefit us.
ARE YOU A WARRIOR GODDESS?
Only cultivating the divine feminine in our lives can also leave us unbalanced and incomplete. When we have too much Goddess energy in our lives, we can spiral into chaos following self-destructive and emotionally reactive paths that leave us victims of any emotional whims we have, and any cruel impulses from others. In fact, too much Goddess energy can lead to addictions, self-pity, and unhealthy identity roles like the Martyr Complex. This is why we need to balance God and Goddess within us; the masculine and the feminine, the anima and the animus. This is where the Warrior Goddess comes into play. The Warrior Goddess is a sacred blend of the masculine and the feminine. As her name suggests, the Warrior Goddess is both a sacred blend of strength, determination and iron-willed bravery, as well as receptivity, spirituality and tenderness. Both yin and yang are kept in balance within the warrior goddess, or nurturing God, and therefore a deep sense of fulfillment, confidence and joy is felt.
THINGS YOU CAN DO TO REDISCOVER THE WARRIOR GODDESS WITHIN YOU
Personally, a big part of my own journey toward regaining my power as a Warrior Goddess was accepting how extremely unbalanced I was many years ago on an emotional level. As a child I grew up not only deeply rooted in the values, beliefs and goals of the society of a male God, but I was also indoctrinated into a culture within Francoism. A time when I was taught that I had to save my virginity until marriage, have children, stay home and cook, wear dresses and skirts, remain submissive and of course, remain faithful to God (who, of course, was represented as a masculine being).
It wasn’t until I had a radical change around the age of 33 in which I went through a massive, disorderly and changing process of metamorphosis and in which I discovered the beautiful and balanced paradox of who I am. I am both the sheep and the lion, I am the sun and the moon, I am fire and water, I am logical and emotional, I am sensitive and strong, I am a student of night and day. I am a Warrior Goddess, and so are you. I know how difficult it can be to embody this fusion of two opposites, this energetic alchemy, but it is possible, and below I will give you an idea of how to rediscover this divine balance within you, whether you are a man or a woman:
1. EXPLORE YOUR STORY. We all have stories that we tell ourselves. I refer to these as “stories” because they all have a beginning, middle, and end, and are products of our memories, past experiences, religious indoctrination, and cultural myths. For example, your story could be this: “My name is Jaime. I am a man who loves to eat and go to soccer games with my friends. “I’m a man who likes to be with my friends and I don’t really understand women other than when I’m with them in bed.” Or your story could be: »I’m Tamara. I am a quiet wife and mother of two children who loves astrology. Although my children don’t really understand me, I sacrifice a lot for them and my husband. “I’m a giver more than a receiver.” What specific gender roles can you identify in your personal history that may be limiting? Some examples could be that you are a boy, a girl, a godmother, a business man/woman, a mother, a father, a leader, etc. By identifying these specific gender roles, and how dominant the masculine/or feminine energy is in your story, you can open a door for your growth.
2. SPEAK YOUR TRUTH. Be honest and sincere. What do you really want from life, from other people and from yourself? Stop sitting in the backseat of life and give yourself permission to take the wheel for once. Yes, it’s good to flow with life, but it’s also good to be honest with yourself and other people about what you really want and need.
3. IGNITION YOUR WILL. Sometimes you need to stand up and be assertive in a respectful way. Most of us have problems with agency, setting healthy boundaries, and pursuing what we love.
If you have too much masculine energy, you will be dominant and aggressive. If you have too much feminine energy you will realize that you are manipulative and passive-aggressive. How can you ignite your will in a healthy and balanced way?
4. COMMIT TO YOURSELF. Commitment involves using the mind and the heart. The heart says, “I love this, I want to do this,” and the mind says, “This is wise, this is logical.” When you commit to the path of the Warrior Goddess, you are committing to love all that you are – both the light and the dark, the pleasant and the unpleasant, the beautiful and the ugly. This is what true self-love is, not some modern, unmistakable form of self-aggrandizement, but a deep, painful, revolutionary acceptance of what “you” are made up of. So commit to loving yourself. This is the most fundamental component of what creates a Warrior Goddess.
5. CELEBRATE YOUR SEXUALITY. Honoring who you are on a deep sexual level is extremely difficult. We all carry centuries of ancestral guilt, depravity and repression. But the truth is that you are a sexual being, and being a sexual being is not “wrong,” “dirty,” or “immoral,” as we have so often been taught. Instead, our sexuality has an immense source of creativity, power and energy that is a powerful force of nature and literally motivates most life on Earth. Exploring and accepting your sexuality can be a long and slow process, but its benefits are immense. For example, in my practice I have treated several people who at some point discover that they feel sexually attracted to both men and women. At first they felt ashamed, confused and lost, not knowing what was happening. But they eventually came to accept this as a beautiful part of the paradoxical diversity that forms their identities. In your case, exploring, accepting and integrating your sexuality will not only help you become a more confident, creative and centered person, it will. It also helps you release old chains of guilt and shame that might be preventing you from truly experiencing the happiness of this life experience.
6.REMEMBER YOUR STRENGTH AND PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY. The warrior’s energy is fueled by inner strength, and this inner strength comes from self-responsibility. With self-responsibility it is about “letting go of the shit” that is self-pity, guilt and avoidance, and being proactive in your life. In this sense, the self-actualized Warrior Goddess does not represent long pity parties, disempowering identity roles, or toxic environments. The Warrior Goddess does not think of herself as “lost,” victimized, or “trapped,” but as wild and free, and woe to anyone who stands in the way. If you are stuck in a rut right now, you may be your own Savior. Don’t expect anyone else to help you, but don’t be afraid to ask for help either. You are the one you have been waiting for.
7. ENTER INTO YOUR WISDOM. You have within you the mysteries and wonders of the universe. And your life can be a testimony of what it is like to emerge from the telluric realms of the earth, into the bright light of day. You are a seed that is blooming. Honor the process of your growth that comes in the form of difficult lessons and painful life experiences. Let the moist earth of your life nourish you. Prepare to grow, bloom and die, and again a thousand times. This is how you mature with soul. This is an opportunity to embody your hard-earned, already learned wisdom.
YOU ARE A WARRIOR GODDESS…. you are the Mother and the Father; the lover and the beloved; Night and day. I want you to share below your own struggles, triumphs, accomplishments, and advice from the Warrior Goddess.
